Renewed Or Cancelled?
Viewers beware, you’re in for a scare; The Midnight Club is not a Goosebumps adaptation but it is the latest horror sensation from the mind of Mike Flanagan. After finishing all 10 episodes, you may be wondering if this has been renewed or cancelled. Here’s what we know:
What is The Midnight Club about?
The story centers on the idea of death and facing one’s mortality, wrapped up in a series of different campfire stories and a diverse group of kids. Alongside these stories though is a mystery centering on Brightcliffe, a strange hospice that holds more than a few secrets inside. The protagonist for this piece is Ilonka, who learns of a heartbreaking terminal diagnosis that gives her less than a year to live. Doing some research online, she discovers said hospice, catering exclusively for terminally ill young adults, along with reports online of a woman called Julia Jayne being healed of her cancer. As a result, she packs up her stuff and decides to stay in this big house with a number of other kids. Once there, Ilonka and the others begin telling each other scary stories, while grappling with a mystery inside Brightcliffe Hospice itself. We have extensive coverage of The Midnight Club across the site, including recaps for every episode and a full season review. You can find that HERE!
Has The Midnight Club been renewed for season 2?
At the time of writing, The Midnight Club has been officially cancelled and will not be returning for a second season. Generally Netflix gauge numerous metrics before renewing a show, including how many people initially watch it and then looking at the drop-off rate. With some shows, cancellations or renewals happen quickly (ala. Squid Game, Bridgerton & Irregulars) Other times, it can take months before Netflix make a decision over a show’s future. So far, The Midnight Club has had a very positive reception with critics and audiences lavishing praise on this one, with the show currently doing a great job hitting the top 10 on Netflix across various regions across the world. Despite all of that, The Midnight Club will not be returning for another season.
What we know about season 2 so far:
Barely anything is known about season 2 at this point, given Netflix have only just cancelled this project. However, there’s certainly scope for another season should another network decide to pick this up. At the end, we learned a little more about the cult, saw the origins for who owned Brightcliffe, and saw Ilonka make peace with her own mortality. There’s some lovely moments in here and there’s still lots more scope for a second season to explore this further. This seems like the end of the road for The Midnight Club though, so we’ll have to wait and see if any other network decide to pick this up.
