What is Pachinko Season 1 about?
Pachinko is a drama spanning across multiple different time periods, depicting the trials and tribulations of a Korean immigrant family. Specifically, the story centers on Sunja, whom we follow from a child all the way up to an elderly lady. Along the way, we see all the hardships and drama she’s been faced with. We also follow Solomon, Sunja’s grandson, who finds himself conflicted over his lineage and doing what’s right for his people. He’s desperate to make it big but faces prejudice and racism along the way. We have extensive coverage on Pachinko across the site, including ongoing recaps for all 8 episodes, which you can find HERE.
Has Pachinko been renewed for season 2?
At the time of writing, AppleTV+ has renewed Pachinko for season 2! Given the respectable viewing figures over the weeks, and Apple’s track record for renewing a lot of its shows, that’s perhaps hardly surprising. However, as this story is based on a book that does have a conclusive ending, and the series hasn’t explored everything in the book, it would appear that we’ve got lots more drama to come in the future.

What we know about season 2 so far:
Not much is known about season 2 at the time of writing. In a recent interview with Variety (which you can read here), Pachinko was actually pitched as a four season show. With so much rich backstory in the book, there’s no way Pachinko was going to be able to tell all of that across 8 episodes. In their own words: “It would be a disservice to what the book accomplished. When you think about all the characters that we have, we want to live with them and move on this journey of what a live is. So that was always the intention when we filmed the show. Our fingers are crossed for Season 2.” Given Apple’s great track record with renewals, this is great news to see Pachinko return. Would you like to see Pachinko return for a second season and beyond?
